I want you to listen to me and say what we are going to talk about. Music is a mysterious thing for me; I don’t know exactly why it exists. But it makes me more sensitive. Music often helps me to cheer up or relax. I’m sure that music is helpful for people. What are we going to talk about? We are talking about the role of music, its styles, musical instruments and famous musicians.

Why do people listen to music? Look at the smart board, read and say if you agree or disagree with the statements. By the way, how can we express agreement or disagreement? (That’s right. How right it is. I absolutely agree. I think I’d agree. I am of the same opinion. No, I don’t think so. That is the way I see it. I’m afraid I disagree with it. I am not sure in fact.).

We are surrounded by many sorts of music. What sort of music do you know? What style of music does your partner like? Why? To know it ask her questions. Use the example as a model.

-         What style of music do you listen to?

-         I listen to rock.

-         Why do you like it?

-         It helps me to push out negative energy.

Do you know how to distinguish styles of music? Let’s do it now. Will you listen to music and say which style it is. Don’t forget to express your opinion. (I think, I am sure, in my opinion, to my mind, probably, may be, I can be mistaken but I think) Look at the screen and say if you were right or not. (I was right. I am afraid I was not right)

There is a world of music around us. Is this world large or small? It often depends on how much you know: the more you know the larger the world is. The name of this singer is well known among musicians. Listen to one of his songs and answer the questions. Eddie Mercury was a person who connected Britain with the rest of the world. Read the text in order to get more information about the singer. Below the text there are statements, say if they are true or false.

The people of Rostov region are proud of musicians that did much for the development of Russian culture. Can you call the names of famous opera singers, conductors, song writers or composers that were born or lived in our area? Elena Obraztsova a famous Russian opera singer lived in Taganrog, Mikhail Tanitch an outstanding song writer was born in Taganrog, a well known conductor and musician Yuri Bashmet was born in Rostov-on-Don.  Do you know what musical instrument he plays? He plays the violin. Ask your partner if he can play any musical instrument?

-         Can you play any musical instrument?

-         No, I can’t.

-         And what about you?

-         Neither can I. (совпадение действия в отрицательном предложении)

-         Can you play any musical instrument?

-         Yes, I can.

-         Can you? I cant.(несовпадение действия с положительным ответом)

Which instrument would you like to play? To answer this question let’s revise the names of the musical instruments. Match the English words with the Russian equivalents. Check yourself and say if you were right.

What do you imagine when you think of music? When I think of music I imagine musical instruments/ famous musicians/ touchy tunes/ fine feelings/ musical festivals. As for me I imagine happy days and I am sure that we can’t live without music.

Did you like our lesson? What did you like best of all? And I like your work and thank you for it.

Freddie was educated at St. Peter's boarding school near Bombay, India, where he had his first musical training (Grade piano). His first onstage performance was also at St. Peters, with his five-member school band, the Hectics.

Freddie and his family fled to England because of a revolution in Zanzibar. He was 18 when he arrived in England. There, he got a Diploma in Art and Graphic Design at Art College. With a wide vocal range and a somewhat operatic technique, he was one of the most successful and talented pop singers.
